The Brain & Body Lab is thrilled to report that we received a grant from the National Institutes of Mental Health to continue studying how early experiences impact brain-gut communication across childhood and adolescence. We will be launching a new study soon called “Teen Bugs” to answer these questions!
Fran Querdasi presented findings from a project on how the gut-microbiome-brain axis contributes to internalizing symptoms in middle childhood, co-led with former postdoc Jess Uy, at the Society for Biological Psychiatry Conference on May 9-11 in Austin, TX.
Undergraduate RAs Elena Chan, Jericho Tran-Faypon, Minella Aghajani, Eddie Navaro, Michael Srouji, Andre Fabian, Jaiden Huang, and Angelina Meng presented their research during the 2024 Psychology Undergraduate Research Conference and Undergraduate Research Week.

Jennifer Somers, a postdoctoral research fellow at UCLA, is currently recruiting parents and daughters (6-11 yrs) to participate in a study on parenting and girls’ emotional development. Study participants will be asked to complete two brief discussions about everyday emotional experiences and answer questions afterward. Participants’ heart rate will also be monitored during the study. All procedures will take place in participants’ home; the study lasts 1.5 hrs and families will be compensated $50 for their time.
